Location: MiJa Books, 500 Lakewood Center Mall, Suite 39 (Across from Macy’s), Lakewood CA 90712

Date: Saturday, March 19, 2022

Time: 1pm-4pm

About the Book: A children’s book by Amy Hwang, about the female heroes from the Bible, recasting and highlighting their stories of faith and boldness.
If She Can, You Can! is a children’s book about the stories of sixteen women in the Bible who broke the rules, overcame stigma, and went against what the world expected of them as women. With courage and faith, they always took a step forward. Their actions of boldness were not only for themselves but for the people around them. Instead of listening to: “How dare she?” “How could she?”, “Why would she?”, “She can’t.”, “She shouldn’t.”, or “She mustn’t.” These sixteen women asked themselves, “How does your heart feel?”, “What does your mind say?”, and most importantly, “what does God tell you?”

About the Author: Amy Hwang is a registered nurse, musician, teacher, and soon-to-be family nurse practitioner who lives in Southern California. She shares her love for children through involvement in children’s ministry, missions, and nonprofit organizations. Amy envisions using her writing to empower children to grow in Imago Dei (Image of God in Latin), walk in the truth, and soar with courage. About the Author:
Judy Li is a Taiwanese American writer and designer currently living in Southern California. She has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and a master’s degree in visual communication.

“Baby Snack Time” is Judy’s first children’s book. She saw a need for more English Chinese bilingual books in the children’s books market, especially for many modern families with mixed-heritage children. Judy wanted to create a colorful and lively learning book that is centered on food, a pillar of Asian culture. In “Baby Snack Time,” Judy uses her talent in visual storytelling to help the next generation learn Chinese vocabulary while celebrating familiar Asian snacks she loved as a child.

About the Book:
Baby Snack Time is a bilingual board book written in English and Traditional Mandarin Chinese with pinyin, a Romanization system created for non-native readers to learn Mandarin pronunciation. It celebrates Asian culture with nostalgic snacks that many Asian family households grew up with! It features a main Asian character so that children can see themselves represented in books.

Follow baby Juju during her snack time and learn fun new things, like counting, directions, colors, shapes, animals and fruits as well as Mandarin Chinese vocabulary! This book is perfect for children ages 1-6, during a child’s prime time for language development.

Donte Wade Jr Author Event

Join us for a meet & greet and book signing with author Donte Wade Jr.! FREE to attend with an in-store purchase of his picture book Wade’s Super Duper Cape.

Location: MiJa Books, 500 Lakewood Center Mall, Suite 39 (Across from Macy’s), Lakewood CA 90712

Date: Saturday, February 19, 2022

Time: 4pm-6pm

About the Author:

Between the ages of 4-8, Donte jr. struggled with severe tantrums, constantly fidgeting, and difficulty focusing. It was a very challenging time for him. Most people did not understand his behavior and quickly assumed he was a “bad child”; thus, there was an unfair bias against him. At the age of 7, Donte went through a professional evaluation and was diagnosed with ADHD. (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Donte’s parents provide him with resources to focus on his strengths such as weekly therapy sessions, changing eating habits, practical communication skills, meditation, and writing. Donte’s family created a mantra, “Love Your Super Duper Powers,” to remind him that he is powerful and no one can take his power away. Donte’s love for reading, writing, superheroes, and anime led him to co-write Wade’s Super Duper Cape. He wanted to share his past experiences and help other kids that feel misunderstood and have a challenging time expressing themselves. His message is to believe in yourself, harness your powers to love yourself, have confidence, and be accountable for your actions so you can learn and grow.
