We are a Dual Immersion campus with over 600 students. WE NEED SPANISH BOOKS!!!!  We are so very happy with the selection of books that were available for my students. I can't wait to plan next year…This was our 1st MiJa Books book fair and it will not be our last!!!

Community Liaison at Ladera Palma Dual Immersion Academy

MiJa Books book fair was an amazing experience. Loved the diverse and multicultural books. I loved the many types of payments that MiJa Books accepts. This provides more purchasing opportunities [for students, staff, and families.]

The selection of diverse books was great, especially the board books for younger kids was well received! The YouTube [video] tutorials made it easy to set up-thank you. [We chose to work with MiJa Books] for 1) the commitment and intentionality to offering diverse books that reflect the student population, 2) to encourage love of literacy, 3) to support a local, woman-owned business, 4) for a fun experience for families, and 5) for fundraising.

Love love love their selection of culturally and ethnically diverse books!! I am so very excited to have found MiJa books for my baby girl and plan to share this self and community love with ALL of my friends and family. THANK YOU for this invaluable resource for our children.

My favorite bookstore for children. A place where our kiddos can see beautiful colorful books filled with characters who look like us. Representation matters and the store is filled with affirmations and positivity. Kudos to MiJa Books!

Frequently Asked Questions

School Book Fairs

Is there a fee to have MiJa Books at our school?

We do not charge a fee for book fairs of 4 days or longer.

What areas does MiJa Books serve?

We currently provide in-person books fairs to schools in Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County, and San Diego County in California.

Our online book fairs are available nationwide.

Do you have minimum sales requirements for the book fairs?

  1. We do not have a sales requirement for our multi-day fairs (4 days+) at elementary schools, but we do have sales goals.
  2. For one-day events, middle schools, and high schools, we have a $5K minimum. Your school can place a purchase order, or you can try to make $5K in sales at your event and place a purchase order for the balance if the $5K is not met with event sales.

How long are your book fairs?

We require a minimum of 4-days. Most schools book 5-day fairs but they can run as long as you’d like. We do offer 1-day events with a $5k minimum.

How far in advance do I need to confirm a book fair with you?

4 or more weeks in advance so we can properly stock your book fair.

Do you have a digital or print catalog for the book fair?

Currently our website serves as our catalog. We’re working on developing an online book fair catalog. This should be ready by Fall 2024.

Do you offer online book fairs?

  1. Yes, we can arrange an online-only book fair. A special checkout code would be created for your school. All ordered books can be delivered to your school for distribution.
  2. You can set the duration you’d like for your online book fair (e.g. two weeks, 30 days, etc)

Is there a fee to book author visits?

  1. MiJa Books requires a 20 book buy minimum per author.
  2. Most authors require a minimum honorarium. We have a few authors that offer free school visits. Please contact us to learn more about our author network.

Will MiJa Books provide us a hotspot to use because we’re not able to access our school wifi due to the strict district policies?

Our hotspot device is available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you absolutely will require a hotspot, let us know as soon as possible to reserve it for your fair.

Can we setup our book fair a week before the book fair event?

Yes, you can set up, up to one week prior. Other schools have used this as a preview week for class visits. Students and teachers can create wish lists during the preview week.

Similar to set up, is MiJa Books able to pick up the Monday after the event or does it have to be the same day?

Yes, we can pick up the Monday after. We might not always have same-day pick up available.

Do you also bring sidelines (non-book items) to sell?

Yes, we have a wide array of sidelines at our fairs. We attempt to be more intentional than other companies about the sidelines we bring, with a focus on school supplies and stationery items. We also have an assortment of bookmarks, stickers, puzzles, coloring and activity books, notebooks, and more.

What is the price range of your books?

  1. Items in the $5-$10 range include: Little Golden Books, leveled early readers, favorite character softcover picture books, sticker books, coloring books, notebooks
  2. Board Books (for ages 0 to 5) tend to average $10.
  3. We have softcover picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels in the $7-$15 range
  4. Hardcover books are in the $15-$20 range.
  5. We also have a “Bargain Books” section for books under $5.
  6. We have "register items” (aka sidelines) that are under $5 including: pens, pencils, mechanical pencils, bookmarks, water bottle stickers, mini journals/notebooks.

How do you handle restocking items?

With enough notice, we can supply one restock. Limited titles and sidelines are available for restock.

Can I ask for specific books/authors/series, etc?

Yes, once we receive a signed contract you will receive a digital Book Fair Prep form. There is an option to include any special request titles, including special languages and cultures.

How much inventory does MiJa Books bring at a time?

This depends on your previous sales numbers. We will bring enough inventory to match previous sales numbers. We’ve worked with schools that have only done $1K in weekly sales and some schools that have done $15K in weekly sales. The expectation for inventory in these cases is really wide, so we need to know your expectation during the planning process.

Are there only Spanish books available or are there multiple languages?

No, most of our stock is in English. We have a wide selection of Spanish and bilingual books. And we currently have titles in Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Hindi, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, German, and Arabic. And can source other languages as requested. This is discussed during the planning process. We only bring non-SPN and ENG titles when requested so you have to be very clear about what other languages you want at your fair. Spanish and Mandarin are easily accessible.

We are a Title 1 school, so we want to make sure books are affordable for our parents, students, and staff. Do you have discount books available?

We have a selection of “Bargain Books” with titles that are under $5. We also have a wide selection of books in the $5-$10 range.

How do you handle lost/stolen/damaged items?

As stated in our book fair contract, “any lost/damaged/stolen property of MiJa Books will be deducted from your fair incentive number (if incentive is chosen) OR billed to your school (if no incentive is chosen).

Do you have books that are part of the Accelerated Reader Program?

Yes! A sizable portion of our inventory is a part of the AR program.

Does MiJa Books have proof of Insurance and a LAUSD vendor number?

Yes, we can provide both insurance and our LAUSD vendor number.

Can you participate in my event?

We currently focus on multi-day school book fairs and only participate in select pop-up events. Please fill out an inquiry form to start the conversation and someone from our team will contact you to discuss further.
